Bogus Callers

Most callers are genuine but sometimes you may come across ‘distraction burglars’ or ‘bogus callers.’

They can be convincing and persuasive and may be men, women or even children, wanting to steal money or valuables.

Some may ask for a glass of water or to wash their hands, while others might be looking for a lost pet. In fact, they may use any story.

They may be smartly dressed and claim to be from an organisation or company. You should always be wary when someone you don’t know comes to your doorstep.

Our staff will always carry identity cards and you should always ask to see it, and ask them to quote our job reference number before you let us in your home.

If you are ever in doubt - Please call us on 01902 552992

Remember the following simple rules:

  • Lock - Keep front and back doors locked, even when at home.

  • Stop - Before you answer, stop and ask whether you are expecting anyone. Check that you have locked any back door and removed the key. Look through a spyhole or window to see who it is.

  • Chain - If you decide to open the door, put the chain or bar on first. Keep it on while you talk to the visitor on the doorstep. (Normally, when the door is shut and locked, you should leave the bar or chain off in case you need to get out in an emergency).

  • Check - Check their details before you let them into your house.
