Information for tenants regarding 'looking after your new...'

Fencing:

Once your fence has been fitted, it is important to look after if carefully so that it lasts as long as possible.

• Regularly stain or paint your fence with products designed specifically for fencing.
• Keep vines and bushes away from the fence and trim them regularly. Plants will damage the fence as they grow, and it is your responsibility to keep them under control. 
• Make sure sprinklers don’t constantly spray your fence.
• Don’t have BBQs or bonfires near your fence and do not use your fence to launch fireworks from. Remember your fence is made of timber and will burn.
• Do not kick balls or allow children to kick balls against your fence and make sure that no one leans or climbs on the fence.

Kitchen:

It’s exciting when it’s all done, final handover inspection has been completed and you are left with a shiny new kitchen!

There are a few steps you can take to help your new kitchen stay looking shiny and new:

• Your kitchen should be cleaned regularly and treated with care
• Be cautious of specific areas that could pose a problem like for example where you put the kettle and where the steam directs
• Any spillages on the worktop or floor should be mopped up as soon as possible. This is to prevent staining.
• It’s a good idea to use a chopping board when preparing food to help prevent scratches and marks to the work top

Bathroom:

You have a lovely new bathroom, here’s a few ways you can look after it:

• Your bathroom should be cleaned regularly and treated with care
• Avoid using abrasive cleaners that may scratch the surface of the bath/wash hand basin/WC
• Take care with the use of descalers as these may dull any chrome/shiny surfaces
• Avoid using real flame candles (scented tea lights etc) as these can get very hot and may cause damage to plastic items like a new bath not to mention the risk of personal injury

Pest Control:

Pest control can be a big problem if you do not deal with it promptly. Please make sure you deal with it as soon as possible through the relevant channels.

As per your tenancy agreement, pest control is the tenant’s responsibility. Please note that BHEMB have no facility to help with pest control.
